Under the spotlight today: The Connor Sheehan Fund
An interview with Dan Sheehan, The Connor Sheehan Fund
How do you brighten our community?
The Connor Sheehan Fund wants every young person and their families to understand that it is OK to not feel OK, and that there are ways to talk about their feelings with family and friends.
Who do you serve in our community?
Our mission is to provide support for programs that help teens, their families, and schools to identify mental health issues and substance use disorders among young people, and to promote awareness, communication and education about youth mental health in our communities.
What are you most proud of?
We are most proud of the ongoing partnership with Ridgebury Farm in Ridgefield, where we are expanding our program to bring kids to the farm to experience a day of mindfulness and connecting with others in a natural setting.
What was the spark that started your organization?
When we lost our son Connor to mental health issues and substance use in 2020, we immediately decided to dedicate ourselves to helping young people and their families understand how to recognize the early signs of mental health issues and substance use problems in themselves and their peers.
