An interview with Janeen Reid, Full Circle Empowerment Inc
How do you brighten our community?
We brighten our community by creating a safe, empowering space where young people are seen, heard, and valued. For seven years, Full Circle Youth Empowerment in Bridgeport has equipped marginalized youth with life-changing skills in financial literacy, workforce development, leadership, culinary arts, cosmetology, and more. We focus on strengths—not deficits—helping youth build confidence, resilience, and vision for their future. Through trauma-informed care and trusted relationships, we walk alongside them as they grow into self-sufficient young adults. When our youth rise, families grow stronger, schools improve, and our entire community shines brighter—one empowered young person at a time.
Who do you serve in our community?
Full Circle Youth Empowerment serves underserved youth ages 14–18 across Bridgeport and the greater Fairfield County area—young people with tremendous potential who often lack access to opportunity. Many of the youth we support have experienced trauma, including poverty, community violence, foster care involvement, housing instability, or family hardship. Despite these challenges, they are resilient, talented, and full of promise. We provide a safe, non-judgmental space where they can heal, build skills, and discover their strengths. Our programs equip them with confidence, career pathways, and real-world tools—ensuring their circumstances do not define their future, but instead fuel their success.
What are you most proud of?
What I am most proud of is the transformation we witness in our youth. Over the past seven years, we have seen students who once felt overlooked, discouraged, or uncertain about their future grow into confident leaders with direction and purpose. I am proud that we don’t just offer programs—we build trusting relationships, create safe trauma-informed spaces, and focus on strengths rather than deficits. Our youth complete programs in financial literacy, workforce development, leadership, culinary arts, and more with real skills and renewed belief in themselves. Watching them rewrite their narratives and step boldly into adulthood is our greatest achievement.
