An interview with Peter Kent, President, Daily Bread Food Pantry
How do you brighten our community?
We provide healthy, nutritious food free of charge in a modern, welcoming, and dignified setting.
Who do you serve in our community?
All those experiencing food and/or nutrition insecurity.
What are you most proud of?
We are most proud of the 600+ volunteers who make our work possible.
What was the spark that started your organization?
Daily Bread was started in 1984 - well before my time. However, we recognized that the Greater Danbury area needed to be served by a much more dignified and inclusive food pantry. Accordingly, just over a year ago, we opened a state-of-the-art new facility that incorporates the latest thinking in modern food pantries.
What is one of your future impact goals?
To reduce diet-related diseases at a meaningful scale by offering the healthy food that is becoming increasingly unaffordable for working families and others on limited incomes.
How did you change a life?
Who are your community partners?
We work with many community partners - other organizations who also are working to address food insecurity, other social service organizations, local and state government, our food bank partners, local businesses, philanthropic foundations, houses of worship, and a range of other community-minded organizations.
