Community Connections

Community Connections shines a light on local charities whose compassion, service, and dedication strengthen the fabric of our community. By sharing their stories, we hope to inspire others and help the spirit of giving spread throughout our towns.

Under the spotlight today: CT Women's Hoops

An interview with Madeline Brock, CT Women's Hoops

How do you brighten our community?

Connecticut Women’s Hoops brightens the Fairfield County community by creating a consistent, inclusive space where adult women can stay active, compete, and connect through basketball. We provide year-round opportunities for women ages 18+—many of whom no longer have access to organized sports—to prioritize their physical and mental wellness while building meaningful relationships.
Our league brings together women from across Fairfield County, fostering a strong sense of belonging, teamwork, and empowerment.

By removing barriers to play and making the game accessible again, Connecticut Women’s Hoops promotes health and wellness while strengthening the Fairfield County community through connection, and inclusivity.

Who do you serve in our community?

Connecticut Women’s Hoops serves adult women (18+) across Fairfield County seeking opportunities to stay active, compete, and connect. Our players include former high school and college athletes, as well as women who simply love the game and want a structured, welcoming environment.
We serve women of all skill levels and backgrounds, many balancing careers and families, by providing an accessible outlet for fitness, competition, and community. By offering consistent, organized basketball, we support those who may no longer have access to athletics, helping them stay healthy, build relationships, and remain engaged within the Fairfield County community.

What are you most proud of?

We are most proud of building a strong, inclusive community where women across Fairfield County can reconnect with the game and with each other. In a short time, Connecticut Women’s Hoops has grown into a year-round league serving over 100 players each season, many of whom hadn’t had access to organized basketball since high school or college.
Beyond the competition, we’re proud of the environment we’ve created—one that prioritizes support, empowerment, and connection. Seeing players form friendships, stay active, and feel a renewed sense of confidence and belonging is what we’re most proud of.

What was the spark that started your organization?

After graduating college, I still wanted to play basketball but couldn’t find any leagues for adult women in the area. Instead of letting that be the end of my playing career, I decided to create my own opportunity. What started as a simple idea quickly turned into our first season with six teams. That initial spark—wanting a place to keep playing—grew into Connecticut Women’s Hoops, a community that now gives other women the same opportunity to stay connected to the game.
